Back when I was a university undergraduate in Ye Olde England, my dormitory room had an Ikea lamp, lots of ostentatious volumes and a ostentatious antique boulder stripe posting. There is another mushroom developing from my ceiling( not on purpose ). This was pretty guideline and my peers had discrepancies of the same.
Fast forward to present-day America and things have changed. I present as Exhibit A, Lindy Goodson and Abby Bozeman, freshman roommates at Ole Miss. A picture of Goodson and Bozemans dormitory room recently extended viral because, unlike dorm rooms of yore, their chamber is really, really nice. Like Shangri-La nice. Circumstances coincide. Amazing, right? But not actually that unexpected. Goodson and Bozeman arent outliers; theyre representative of a more design-savvy, Instagram-image-conscious generation. People from the National Retail Federation been demonstrated that spending on dorm room decor has gone up over the last several years and some students are even use interior design conglomerates to decorate their rooms.
Before we start tutting about it wasnt like this for my generation, a few messages about the present generation. The current intake of newcomers are around 18 or 19, which means theyre at a very young result of the millennial generation and the oldest result of Gen Z or as I like to call them, Zillennials.
Zillenials have different anticipations of the college ordeal than previous generations. Theyve been received information that college can be a premium know-how, and both private corporations and colleges are stringing up to serve it to them. Colleges, in general, going to go from stark survey centres to country-club like know-hows. Most of the time these dont even appear to be sardonic. Rather “theyre saying” concepts like Youre not a pigeon youre a unicorn in elaborated typography. You may think inspirational terms are trite but keep calm and you can carry them off.
All parallelling everything
Thanks to social media, dorm mates are connecting and coordinating before they even meet. Students are willfully choosing to abandon their individualism in the name of symmetry and the findings are <a href="mailto:

Pillows are the new posters
You can never be too rich or too thin or have too many pillows, apparently. Pillows have proliferated at an alarming pace in recent years. Whats more, many of them compound the above directions: they parallel and have a motivational motto on them.
Well ever have paris
French is a possibility its own language of love but its likewise the eternal communication of trying to voice sophisticated. While previous generations may have put up a framed antique French cinema poster, todays boys have a pillow with Cest La Vie on it or Paris plastered over their bedding or a wall decal of the Eiffel Tower. The takeout from this? While todays minors have graduated from dog-eared signs and Ikea lamps, theyre still urgently trying to impress each other. Plus a change.
