Back when I was a university undergraduate in Ye Olde England, my dorm room had an Ikea lamp, lots of pretentious volumes and a ostentatious antique stone stripe posting. There was also a mushroom germinating from my ceiling( not on purpose ). This was pretty criterion and my peers had deviations of the same.
Fast forward to present-day America and things have changed. I present as Exhibit A, Lindy Goodson and Abby Bozeman, freshman roommates at Ole Miss. A picture of Goodson and Bozemans dorm room recently moved viral because, unlike dormitory room of yore, their area is genuinely, really nice. Like Shangri-La nice. Events parallel. Amazing, right? But not actually that peculiar. Goodson and Bozeman arent outliers; theyre representative of a more design-savvy, Instagram-image-conscious generation. While previous generations may have put up a framed antique French film sign, todays girls have a pillow with Cest La Vie on it or Paris plastered over their pillow or a wall decal of the Eiffel Tower. The takeout from this? While todays girls have graduated from dog-eared posters and Ikea lamps, theyre still desperately trying to impress each other. Plus a change.
