Back when I was a university undergraduate in Ye Olde England, my dormitory room had an Ikea lamp, lots of ostentatious books and a pretentious vintage stone strip poster. Amazing, right? But not actually that extraordinary. Goodson and Bozeman arent outliers; theyre representative of a more design-savvy, Instagram-image-conscious generation. Anatomies from the National Retail Federation show that spending on dorm room decoration has gone up over the last several years and some students are even expending interior design firms to decorate their rooms.
Before we start tutting about it wasnt like this for my generation, a few terms about the current generation. The current uptake of freshmen are around 18 or 19, which means theyre at the youngest goal of the millennial generation and the oldest result of Gen Z or as I like to call them, Zillennials.
Zillenials have differing beliefs of the college event than previous generations. Theyve been received information that college can be a premium event, and both private corporations and colleges are lining up to serve it to them. Colleges, in general, have gone from striking examine hubs to country-club like knowledge. You can never be too rich or too thin or have too many pillows, apparently. Pillows have proliferated at an alarming rate in recent years. Whats more, many of them combine the above tendencies: they accord and have a motivational motto on them.
Well always have paris
French is a possibility the language of charity but its too the eternal language of trying to seem sophisticated. While previous generations may have put up a framed vintage French film sign, todays minors have a pillow with Cest La Vie on it or Paris plastered over their bedclothe or a wall decal of the Eiffel Tower. The takeout from this? While todays boys have graduated from dog-eared postings and Ikea lamps, theyre still desperately trying to impress one another. Plus a change.
